Low Cost / No Cost Marketing
We’ve been talking a lot about how you and your business can get remembered, noticed and known.
Here’s a quick list of things you can do to promote for next to nothing.
1. Email Your Database – Regular contact and
education with your database.
Most newsletters / emails go out about once every five months!
Before you start, collect ten impressive examples from your competition and others in like minded industries and use them as a starting point in terms of articles, call to action, wording, headlines
etc…
The reason it doesn’t get written is you run out of time… solution is to get to write five of them on a weekend and only tweak the bits at the end of the month.
Takes the pressure off and get a better result. You will be amazed at what this one simple initiative can do for credibility and new business-case in point...I think the information that I give you is pretty good. I also get a TON of
new business from my newsletter. Obviously everyone wants new business. Here is the key...DON'T SELL PEOPLE, SERVE PEOPLE. GIVE THEM GREAT INFORMATION THAT THEY CAN USE FOR FREE. DON'T WORRY THAT YOU ARE GIVING STUFF AWAY...SERVE,SERVE AND SERVE, THE MONEY ALWAYS FOLLOWS.
2. Thank You Cards – No one else is doing
it!
So simple yet so powerful in terms of developing clients that ‘pay stay and refer’.
Send Out Cards built a BOOMER of a business on this concept (because no one does it but know they should).
3. Email Signature – When was the last time
you went to the bottom of an email to find a phone number?
I bet it was within the previous 48 hours.
What does the bottom of your emails say?
A great place to show your market dominating position, book, awards, certifications, ask for referrals and state why people should do business with you.
4. Business Cards – OK, so you probably
don’t have one?
That’s why they’re working again.
What do your cards say… do they sell for you?
My guess is they offer boring platitudes like ‘service, quality and dependability’.
You’d better hope they offer ‘service quality and dependability?!’
A high priced take out pasta restaurant had business cards with a perforated side that offered $5 off your next pasta dish.
This ridiculously simple initiative made the restaurant a monster profit and brought in ton of new clients.
Consider getting business cards done up…. But what will they sell / offer / say?
5. Send out Invoices – You and your clients
are paperless, I hear you say?
That’s why they can work again.
Shift your mind to ‘direct mail’ versus that you’re sending invoices to let them know they paid your bill and say thank you.
A great place to tell your story, show your market dominating position, book, awards, certifications, ask for referrals and state why people do business with you.
6. Craigslist – I’ve made MILLIONS of dollars
via classified ads on online sites like Craigslist.
These ads can cost you literally next to nothing… try them.
If they make one sale per year they would easily pay for themselves. If they sell you something once a month, they could be a little piece of gold that pays for your family vacation.
Once a week and they can grow you a 7 figure business that would never need to consider anything that resembles cold calling.
What do you have to lose an experiment?
7. Small Business Publication – There are
publications like the ‘Coffee News’, local newspapers etc… that sit in fast food restaurants, dentist offices and other desirable locations with high readership.
I am not suggesting you should design your annual marketing program around a small ad in the coffee news but it is silly not to test something inexpensive with high readership to see if it may generate
results.
Also note: it is not as much the ‘medium’ (small business publication / FB / Radio / TV / Direct Mail etc…) as it is the ‘message’.
What are you saying / offering in your ad.
A variation of “I need business” is a stupid thing to advertise and what 90% of ads pretty much say.
These are just a few of a number of inexpensive initiatives you should be using to promote your business.
I intentionally didn’t place social media marketing in here because everyone obsesses over it.
8. Think How to Explode in a Pandemic- Most of your competitors are in survival mode which gives you and edge over them. Our clients shifted from survival mode to growth mode way
back in May/June. The result...many are having a RECORD YEAR! The key is mind-set and mechanical execution for GROWTH...EXPLOSIVE GROWTH. Now is the time to over-take your competition and gain their market share. Make sure you have a market dominating position. Make sure you have a specific target market that is hearing and receiving your market dominating position repeatedly through the use of the proper
media.
You heard it here first and remember you can do this!
Obsessed with your business success,
