Depending where you live the world is either very rosy or COVID is crushing you. Regardless of where you live if you make these financial mistakes you are very likely to get hurt. These are the most common mistakes I am seeing business owners making right now:
1. Not realizing and understanding the wheel of life. Each spoke of the wheel feeds and supports the other. For example if your health becomes impaired do you see how that can negatively impact your money spoke? You must have a complete and total plan to work on each and every spoke especially during COVID.
2. Short-sightedness is very hurtful. Most people think a few days or few weeks out. Jeff Bezos is going to create the first trillion dollar business because he looks ten years out. Try it. It has revolutionized my life and business for sure. Think like this...What impact will my execution or lack of execution of this action step do for me in ten years?
3. Not having a cohesive financial plan. A friend and colleague called me recently. He is a Chiropractor with a practice that is doing well. He was thinking of becoming a client. He is in the process of selling his house. When I asked him what is he going to do with the proceeds his answer was I am not sure; I think I am going to pay off my credit cards. When I asked what is the interest rate on the cards he said 0%. He is not prepared for
retirement. Losing the earning power that the proceeds will give him to pay off 0% debt is insane with a capital "I". Using that strategy will ensure that he will never be able to retire! He is now a client that has a cohesive plan that includes growing his business, cutting the right expenses, reducing debt properly and growing his money that will ensure that he can retire comfortably in 12 years. He now can sleep at night for the first time in years!
4. Cutting back on expenses in the wrong areas. Let me make this simple. DO NOT CUT ADVISERY SERVICES, MARKETING, OR EMPLOYEES UNLESS IT IS BEYOND ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
5. Not knowing how to run a business. Health professionals are the most susceptible to this. They were never taught how to run a business; they make a lot of money; their poor business skills create a lot of debt which becomes crushing.
6. Not understanding how to give more service than is paid for. When you give more, you will always receive more.
7. Failure to practice the Golden Rule. This is a big one folks. The crazy illegal and unethical crap that I see just makes me want to cry. If it is illegal, unethical or immoral DON'T DO IT. Does that really have to be said?
8. Not having a cohesive all encompassing plan for your life and business. How do you steer a ship without a rudder or compass?

Our kids are our future. They will be the teachers, policeman, fireman, chiropractors, medical doctors, judges, senators and congress people in the future. COVID has a caused a huge increase in loneliness, suicides and hopelessness in many of our kids.

7. If you understood the wheel of life and how to effectively use it to control your future and your destiny
8. If you knew how to handle money, budgets, and how to minimize debt (our seven year old's learn this! How awesome do you think they will be at age 40??
9. If you knew how to create expectation management
10. If you knew and understood how to "read" people so you can avoid hurtful or dangerous situations
11. If you learned how to apply the Golden Rule every single day of your life
12. If you understood how to prioritize all of life's tasks
13. If you knew how to motivate yourself
14. if you knew how to study
15. If you knew how to "find yourself"
Our kids are the future. As an adult, I am sure that you would agree, master that list above and master your life.
